Congrats mama, you made it to week 13 of your pregnancy - the last week of your first trimester. Your sweet baby is the size of a pea pod or small peach. About 3 inches long and weighs almost 1 ounce.
If you could see baby right now you would notice his fingerprints starting to form on his tiny fingertips and you would be able to see his veins and organs through his translucent skin.
Since this is your last week in the first trimester miscarriage risk has dropped dramatically. Knowing that miscarriage risk goes down if you’ve made it this far always allows us to breathe a sigh of relief.
As for other mama developments your breasts are already changing as they begin making colostrum which is a translucent liquid that is full of vitamins and nutrients. If you choose to breast feed this colostrum will sustain your baby for the first few days, until your milk comes in. Breast-feeding is not for everyone, but I’m a huge advocate for it. Every mama and baby are different so don’t feel pressured one way or another, it’s ultimately your decision. Don’t feel guilty if you cannot breast-feed but want to. As I said every mama and baby are different and some babies are not able to breast-feed and some mamas are not able to nurse.

A good thing to keep in mind this week and throughout your pregnancy is to make sure that you’re staying hydrated. A good hydration indicator is the color of your urine. If it’s dark yellow or cloudy you need to drink more fluids. Clear or light yellow means you are well hydrated.
This week we are interviewing Laura Arndt, the creator of the Matriarc App. Laura describes her current pregnancy journey as well as the different functions of the app and why she created it.
